Narrative Reports

OMG!!! Can I just say how much I am not enjoying writing narrative reports for all of my kiddos? I have to write a whole page about each of my 19 little ones. While I'm enjoying the reflection process, the volume of work is RIDICULOUS! I'm only halfway done and they are due tomorrow.

I tried, and tried to start as soon as they were assigned (last Monday) but I just could not be motivated to get through them. Add to that being sick for a few days, and missing a day of work...and this whole thing makes me sad. I hate being a procrastinator...wish me luck!

Classroom Organization

Second post in one night!

I wanted to share two things with you all. The first is my favorite part of my classroom. I spent a lot of time organizing my classroom library and making it Kindergarten-friendly. I put colored/lettered stickers on each book and book box so that the children can choose and return book independently. My students have really taken great care of the books! I tried to make it a comfortable nook to read and its certainly become one of their favorite places to spend time.

The next photo is a solution to a problem that has been driving me crazy since the start of the year. I noticed that many of the books the children were checking out from the library were becoming mixed up with my books in our class library. I don't know why it took me so long to think of a solution. I have 2 book display shelves so I labeled one Library Books and put it by our meeting rug and it is now the designated space for children's library books if they choose not to bring them home.

Classroom Transformation

So this is new for me. I'm trying out this whole blog thing so I can try to chronicle my adventures through kindergarten. I'm new to K this year. I used to teach 2-4 grade sub-separate special education. I made the switch to K and I couldn't be happier. However the beginning of my journey was anything but easy.

I was hired as an add-on classroom...ALL of my furniture and supplies were ordered brand new and came out of boxes. I worked all summer to unpack (while still working at my old school...year round program). Needless to say it was hard work!

I don't have pictures of the very beginning. I think I deleted them, but here is an idea of what my room looked like about 2 weeks into the arrival and unpacking of furniture.

This is only a small portion of my furniture. The tables were delivered to the wrong place, so those are not the ones  in my room now.

This is what my classroom looks like today. I'm not completely in love with it. I set it up as I was receiving furniture so it doesn't function the way I would like. However, I'm taking notes for how to improve it next year!
